Swim Pool


The Burbank Y Bluefins (BYB) is a professionally coached, competitive swim team for swimmers from 5 years old through high school. The team practices in Reading, MA at the Burbank YMCA, a modern facility with a new fully equipped fitness center. The competition pool has 8-lanes with an electronic timing system, scoreboard and touch pads. A separate warm-up pool is also available.


BYB has two seasons. The winter season (short course-25 yards) begins in September and runs through February. The summer season (long course-50 meters) begins in March and ends in July. 


BYB competes in Division 1 of the Eastern Mass YMCA Swim League. We are also a USA Swim Club and a member of New England Swimming. Membership in USA swimming provides additional competitive opportunities to team members. Participation in USA Swimming is optional during the winter season but is required for members of the summer team.

BYB practices are offered six days per week and include dry land and water practices for all ages. Swimmers will be assigned to a practice schedule based on their age and ability. Swimmers 13 & over are encouraged to work with the Fitness Staff to learn a fitness program specifically designed for swimmers. Recognizing that families need flexibility in their schedules, more practices are offered at each age level than the swimmer is required to attend. High school swimmers are welcome to join the team and their practice schedule will be reduced during their school season.


BYB parents and family members are an important part of the team's success. We look to parents to support their swimmer's success by making sure they attend practices and meets, for their assistance in hosting meets, and their participation in a variety of volunteer activities for the team. Both for the swimmer and the family, there are a variety of social activities planned during each season and parents and siblings are encouraged to join in.
